TAG is short for tight aggressive player. It refers to a player who is highly specialized and has a range of holdings. VPIP is another term that relates to a player’s ability to put his or her own money into the pot, voluntarily.
Depending on the game, the ante is the minimum bet. Generally, the ante is $1 or $5. Besides the ante, a player can choose to pay a rake, which is a small fee for each hand. Rakeback is a percentage of the rake that is paid back to the players as a reward.
Other terms that are used in poker include aces up, Aces and Kings, and a hijack. These terms are sometimes applied to a 6-handed table. For example, a hijack occurs when a player makes a hijack on the middle position.
